Gascoyne Development Commission – Call for Nominations

The Gascoyne Development Commission is inviting expressions of interest from people who live in the Gascoyne to fill one Community vacancy and two Local Government Area vacancies on the GDC Board of Management.

As one of nine Regional Development Commissions in Western Australia, GDC works to build strong, sustainable and liveable communities, with the Board providing strategic direction for the Gascoyne region.

This is an opportunity to contribute leadership that reflects the Gascoyne’s unique strengths and challenges while advancing key Western Australian Government priorities:

Community Vacancy 

In accordance with the Regional Development Commissions Act 1993, nominees for the community vacancy must reside in the Region and can be nominated by a community organisation or themselves. Terms of appointment will be from one to three years. The Minister for Regional Development, Hon Stephen Dawson MLC will make the appointment to the Board after consultation with WA State Cabinet.

The Commission is seeking nominations from people with the following experience:

  • Understanding of key issues impacting the development of the Region;
  • Demonstrated involvement in either the economic, and/or social development of the Region; and
  • The ability to work cooperatively to achieve agreed goals across a wide range of issues and stakeholders.

Local Government Vacancy

Under regulation 2 and regulation 12 of the Regional Development Commissions Regulations 1994, two members of the Board are to be nominated by local governments in the region.

Each nomination should be for a person who:

  • Is an elected member or senior officer of a Gascoyne local government; and
  • Is willing and able to serve as a member of the GDC Board for the full term of appointment.

For each nominee, please provide:

  • Full name and contact details
  • Current position and local government
  • A brief (one page) statement outlining:
    • understanding of regional development issues and opportunities in the Gascoyne
    • governance and board experience
    • capacity to attend meetings and actively contribute to Board business.
