As the youth of today are tomorrow’s future numerous private and government bodies in the Gascoyne have identified that it’s of paramount importance to nurture growth and support mental and physical development.
There are two Police and Citizen Youth Clubs in the Gascoyne (Carnarvon and Exmouth) that offer recreational facilities including: gymnastics, gymnasium and a variety of recreational activities as well as school holiday programs. Guides, scouts and cadets are also on offer.
The major Gascoyne towns offer excellent recreational facilities, including skate parks, parks with playgrounds, water parks, recreation centres and ovals. There is an active PCYC in Carnarvon and Exmouth offering activities and programs for youth. There is also a variety of organised sporting clubs offering activities such as netball, cricket, football, soccer and basketball for all age groups. Sport and recreation activities are supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation, which is located in Carnarvon.
The Gascoyne also has the advantage of a superb climate and an abundance of natural environment to entice involvement in outdoor recreation. Popular activities include surfing, kite surfing, fishing, camping, boating, sailing, shooting and motor bike riding.

The safety and well being of youth in the Gascoyne is monitored and strategies are active to ensure youth live in a happy safe environment. Strategies such as the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan and Youth Junior Council Program are both coordinated by the Shire of Carnarvon.
