GDC Board Visit Exmouth

About the Gascoyne Development Commission

Board Members Ningaloo Centre webDespite the unusual weather in Exmouth last week, the town was busy with Board visits from the Gascoyne Development Commission (GDC), Tourism Western Australia and the Gascoyne Tourism Board.

The GDC Board is the governing body of the Commission and is responsible for developing policies and positions on the Commission’s strategic direction.  The Board meets 6 times a year, at various locations, to discuss the economic base, service needs, opportunities and challenges of the Gascoyne region.

On this occasion, tourism, was a key theme.

The GDC Board and Tourism WA Board and Executives co-hosted an Exmouth Industry Sundowner at the Novotel Ningaloo Resort on Thursday 23 June 2016. Over 50 government employees, industry representatives and community members attended this event which proved to be a great opportunity for strategic conversations to take place on the sustainable economic and social development of the region.  Mr Tony Beard, Chair of the GDC Board, officially welcomed participants and recognised the beauty and opportunities of the region.

The GDC Board also participated in a tour of the Ningaloo Centre construction site.  A total of $27million has been invested into this community project with a large contribution of $20million from the Royalties for Regions program. The Ningaloo Centre is a multipurpose centre and is scheduled to be opened in April 2017. The Centre will comprise of areas for Research, Education (Central Regional TAFE) and Community.

The next Board Meeting will take place at Mt Augustus in August 2016.
