The Gascoyne Telecommunications Working Group
The Gascoyne Telecommunications Working Group (GTWG) is a community committee that advises the Gascoyne Development Commission (GDC) on all aspects of telecommunications and information technology affecting the Gascoyne. The group aims to assist the region stay abreast of technological innovation and reach its potential as part of the global community.
The GDC provides executive support to the GTWG and prepares information and advice for State and Federal agencies involved in telecommunications.
The GTWG’s main activities are:
- Monitoring changes in information and communications technology and their impact on Gascoyne communities
- Providing information, advice and training to the wider Gascoyne community
- Advising Government, lobbying service providers and other organisations to provide effective services
In December 2007 the group prepared a submission for the Federal Government Regional Telecommunications Review. The submission highlighted telecommunications concerns in the region and reiterated the need for extended mobile phone coverage, high-speed affordable internet access and ongoing consumer training opportunities.
The group is currently working with the Shire of Carnarvon and the Carnarvon Visitors Centre to install a web camera to allow people access to still image views of the Carnarvon fascine waterway.
