Business Training and Development

In the highly competitive globalised environment all small businesses need to remain abreast of current business thinking, best practice and innovation and skills training.

With most business training opportunities based in metropolitan areas, regional businesses can face significant costs to provide additional training for their staff.

In recognition of this, the Gascoyne Development Commission is working in partnership with the regional Chambers of Commerce, the Small Business Centre Gascoyne and small to medium business owners, to find an equitable solution to this problem.

Project officers have devised a number of strategies to facilitate sharing the cost of bringing training professionals to the region by

  1. Providing a central point for businesses to communicate their needs and plans and the means to inform other businesses of these plans.
  2. Matching business needs to training opportunities.
  3. Facilitating the funding and organisation of business training opportunities.
  4. Promoting training opportunities.

A series of training opportunities are being made available to a range of business sectors in the region in 2008/09. Participation in all forums has been strong and the demand for repeat regular training opportunities has been demonstrated.

To meet this need, the Commission is working toward producing a Gascoyne Business Training E-Calendar to assist small business with a schedule of structured training opportunities available in the region.
