The Gascoyne, in the North West of Western Australia, captures more than 600 km of Indian ocean coastline and stretches about 500km inland. The coastal area incorporates internationally recognized features such as the Ningaloo Reef, the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, Monkey Mia, and Coral Bay. The hinterland includes the outstanding features of the Kennedy Range and Mt Augustus.
The Gascoyne region has a mid subtropical climate and enjoys the reputation of the ‘sun’s winter home’ with around 320 days of sunshine each year.
The region boasts a diverse, balanced economy which is supported by a strong network of retail, administrative and trade services. The major industries are tourism, retail, horticulture, mining, fishing, and pastoralism.
While many opportunities exist, attracting capital investment for infrastructure and business development remains one of the main challenges facing the region.
The resident population of 9561 is concentrated in the key centres of Carnarvon, Exmouth, Denham, Gascoyne Junction, Burringurrah and Coral Bay.
